Track influencers and campaigns

Give each creator, influencer or campaign its own links and code, and see how many chats and real orders each one brought.

Last updated: 2026-10-23

When you pay a food blogger, run a campaign or work with a partner, you want to know what it brought: how many people messaged, and how many of them actually ordered. Tracking links give each creator or campaign its own code and a ready-made link for every channel you have connected. Sela notices the code when a customer arrives through it and counts the chats and orders that follow.

The Results on the same page put tracking links, Meta ads and WhatsApp campaigns side by side, so you can compare a creator with an ad in one table.

Where to find it#

  • Overview, then Tracking links in the sidebar (/tracking-links).
  • From the Ads page, Creator and campaign links at the top.
  1. Select New link.
  2. Name: who or what it is for, for example "Ali the food blogger".
  3. Type: Creator, Campaign, Partner or Other.
  4. Code: 3 to 32 English letters, digits, - or _, starting with a letter or digit, for example ALI15. Sela suggests one from an English name. Codes are not case-sensitive (ali15 and ALI15 are the same code) and must be unique in the workspace.
  5. Optional: an Offer the creator promotes, a Website page (an https:// page that has the Sela chat widget) and Notes.
  6. Select Create link.

Keep codes short and distinctive. Customers may type them, and a code that is an ordinary word (MENU, HELLO) would match people who never saw the link.

Each tracking link shows one link per connected channel, with Copy, Open and a QR code you can download for a story, a flyer or a table card. Only channels you have connected get a link.

ChannelThe linkWhat happens
WhatsAppwa.me/<your number> with a message typed in, for example «مرحبا 👋 (ALI15)»The customer's chat opens with the greeting and code ready. When they send it, Sela reads the code. One link per connected WhatsApp number.
Messengerm.me/<your page>?ref=ALI15Messenger passes the code to Sela when the chat opens.
Instagramig.me/m/<your account>?ref=ALI15Instagram passes the code to Sela when the chat opens.
Telegramt.me/<your bot>?start=ALI15The customer taps Start and Sela reads the code.
Store<your store link>?ref=ALI15Shown when your storefront is live. Sela remembers the code for that visitor's store chats and orders.
WebsiteYour page with utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and ref addedShown when the link has a Website page. The chat widget on that page passes the code when the visitor starts a chat.

The message the customer sends from the WhatsApp link is kept exactly as written. If they delete the code before sending, that chat can't be tied to the link. A customer who types the code themselves, anywhere in their first message, counts too.

How chats and orders are counted#

  • A chat counts once, for the first link that reached it. A later link or code in the same chat does not change it. A chat can also carry a Meta ad; each is shown in its own row.
  • On WhatsApp, Sela looks for a code in the first message of a new conversation, or of one the customer reopens. The code must stand on its own: «(ALI15)», «كود ALI15» and «ALI١٥» count; XALI15 does not.
  • On Messenger and Instagram, if the customer already had a closed chat with you, the code is kept for a day and applied to their next new chat.
  • Orders count for a link when they are placed within 7 days of the chat arriving through it: orders from the assistant, staff orders on that chat and store orders. A store order from someone who arrived with ?ref= counts even without a chat, so a link can show more orders than chats.
  • Order value is the total of recorded orders in IQD (and USD when you sell in dollars), not money collected. Cancelled orders are not subtracted.
  • Chats that ordered: how many of the link's chats placed at least one order. Conversion is chats that ordered divided by chats.
  • An archived link keeps its history and its code, but new chats no longer count for it.

WhatsApp campaign results#

For each WhatsApp marketing campaign, Sela also counts:

  • Replies within 72 h: customers who answered within 72 hours of receiving the campaign message, each chat once.
  • Orders within 7 days: orders from those chats within 7 days of the reply, and their value.
  • Replies that ordered.

They appear on the campaign's page under Campaign Inbound Replies, and in the Results table here for campaigns created in the period. Counting started when this feature was released, so older campaigns show no results. See WhatsApp marketing.

The Results table#

Pick Last 7 days, Last 30 days or Last 90 days. The tiles total your tracking links: chats, orders, order value and the share of chats that ordered. The table lists every link, ad and campaign with chats (or replies), orders, order value and conversion, busiest first. Use the tabs to see only Links, Ads or Campaigns. Select Chats on a link to see the conversations it brought and which of them ordered.

Days are UTC days. Ads use the same numbers as the Ads page; for ads, conversion is orders divided by chats.

Ask your AI#

When you connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Sela, it can read the same results with the get_attribution tool, for example "Which influencer brought the most real orders this month?". list_campaigns includes each campaign's replies, orders and order value. See Connect Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps.

Plans and permissions#

  • Tracking links come with every paid plan (Inbox and up), every bundle and trials. Sandbox can't create links. The Ads and campaign numbers do not depend on it.
  • Seeing links and copying them needs Automations: read. Creating, editing and archiving need Automations: manage (owners, admins and managers). The Results need Reports: read. See Team, roles and permissions.
  • A workspace can have up to 200 tracking links.

Gotchas#

  • A customer who keeps using a chat that was already open when they tapped a WhatsApp link stays counted for that chat's first source. Codes are read in new or reopened conversations.
  • The website link counts visitors who start a new chat in the widget. Someone already signed in to the widget from an earlier visit keeps their earlier session.
  • Changing a link's code makes the old links and QR codes stop counting. Create a new link instead if the old ones are already out.
