What an AI credit is, what uses credits, how plan credits and the wallet are consumed, how to top up and monitor usage, what happens at zero, and how to spend less.

AI in Sela runs on credits. Every Small, Medium and Large bundle includes a monthly allowance, and each AI action uses part of it. Advanced agreements use the allowance you choose. Older agreements keep their existing AI Assist terms. This page explains how credits are spent. Bundle allowances and prepaid prices are on Plans and billing.

What a credit is#

A credit is a unit of AI usage. Longer conversations and replies that use more tools use more credits.

Message counts and credit usage measure different things. One reply can involve several AI actions, so its credit usage cannot be determined from the message count alone. Your plan allowance and wallet follow the consumption rules below.

A credit is not a fixed number of replies. Long conversations, many tool lookups and image understanding can use more credits. The balance tells you how much credit remains. Older AI usage cards can also show an estimated reply count based on recent usage.

What uses credits#

ActivityCharged
Customer replyWriting the reply and checking it against your knowledge, on every channel, including the storefront co-pilot
Order quotesExtra work when a quote had to be re-prepared
Image and voice-note understandingWhen a customer sends a picture or voice message
Knowledge base indexingProcessing of each uploaded file, with more for PDFs and scans
Smart notesExtraction and analysis
Copilot suggestions and Improve wordingOperator tools in the inbox
Product, menu and image importsAI extraction for drafts
Automatic quality reviewOne review per scored reply, if you enable it

Human replies and normal inbox use do not use credits. On the storefront, browsing, the cart, checkout and order tracking use no credits; only co-pilot replies do.

Completed AI work still uses credits if a later step fails, a newer customer message interrupts the reply, or your team takes over. Sela records measured usage from completed work; it does not invent a charge for a failed step whose usage is unknown. Retrying the same processed message does not charge that recorded work twice.

Checking and revising an answer to fit its channel or organize required preparation cautions are part of reply usage. A longer answer can need more measured AI work before it is sent. Completed revision and checking work is still recorded if a later source check prevents that answer from being sent. See How the AI works.

When a customer repeats a plain confirmation immediately after an order receipt, returning the existing order reference uses no additional AI credits. See What counts as a confirmation.

Consumption order#

New bundles and advanced agreements use:

  1. Monthly plan credits first.
  2. Earned savings credits next.
  3. Purchased credits after that.
  4. A wallet saved from an earlier agreement under its original terms, if one exists.

Monthly credits expire at the cycle end. Unused monthly credits do not carry over. Purchased credits and earned savings credits do not expire. They still require an active AI agreement to use. Paying early to renew the same agreement extends the paid term without refilling the current month's allowance.

Annual agreements issue a fresh allowance each month, not a year's credits on the first day. Monthly dates follow your agreement's calendar cycle.

Older agreements continue to use monthly plan credits before their original prepaid wallet. Their terms do not change automatically.

The wallet and top-ups#

Open Settings → Plan & usage, titled Bundles & billing. Choose Buy AI credits, review the USD price, then review the final payment amount in Wayl and confirm payment. The balance updates after payment is confirmed. Prepaid pack prices are listed once on Plans and billing.

Only the owner or an authorized billing admin can buy credit. New packs require an active new bundle or advanced agreement that includes AI. Sela does not buy packs automatically.

Your older wallet keeps its money and original terms. The Existing subscription and previous configurator panel retains the earlier settings. Older AI usage cards retain their original wallet top-up options. A saved wallet is not automatically converted into the new credits.

Savings credits#

Sela returns 50% of verified AI savings as AI service credit after review. This is earned usage credit, not cash. It has no expiry and is used after monthly credits, before purchased credits.

The amount depends on usage. Savings verification pending means there is no spendable credit yet. The balance increases only once verification finishes. A pending saving is not a guaranteed future allowance.

Verification sends are separate#

The Customer verification sends balance pays for menu and storefront phone codes. It does not spend AI credits. Each send or resend counts as a send. Placing an order, browsing and order tracking use no AI credits.

Bundle-included sends expire monthly; purchased sends do not expire. Buy extra sends explicitly from Buy verification sends. See Plans and billing for allowances and the pack price.

Monitoring usage#

Open Settings → Plan & usage. A new agreement shows:

  • monthly, earned savings and purchased AI credits, with their total;
  • the monthly expiry date;
  • pending savings verification and the last earned credit added;
  • included and purchased customer verification sends;
  • any retained wallet from an older agreement, separately as money.

An inactive agreement keeps your purchased and earned credits saved. Renew the agreement to use them. Check your balances before busy periods. Credit totals are not promised message counts.

What happens at zero#

When all available AI credit balances and any eligible older wallet are empty:

  • The AI does not reply on any channel. Customers get nothing from the AI, so watch for waiting conversations.
  • Your team can still reply manually. The inbox keeps working.
  • Knowledge indexing, Smart notes, imports and Copilot fail with a message that credits are exhausted. Failed jobs can be retried after a top-up.
  • Customers who sent voice notes or images get no AI understanding of them.

The AI resumes on the next customer message once the agreement is active and credits or an eligible older wallet are available. Messages that arrived while it was off are not answered retroactively, so review those in the inbox.

Reducing usage#

  • Fix the cause of long turns. Put answers in the knowledge base so the AI finds them in one search, not several.
  • Keep the identity short. Very long extra guidance is sent with every turn.
  • Trim tools you do not need. Every enabled tool is described to the AI on each turn. See Tools and actions.
  • Avoid unnecessary re-indexing. Do not upload the same document repeatedly, and split huge scans only when needed.
  • Keep quality review sampling low. Each review uses credits. Use a small percentage and a daily cap.
  • Take busy hours to humans if you prefer. Use Pause assistant on conversations that need a person from the start.
  • Choose a suitable allowance. Compare actual monthly usage with your bundle. Use prepaid packs for occasional peaks, and discuss a different plan when your needs change.

Common questions#

Why did my credits drop after a KB upload? Indexing uses credits, and PDFs and scans cost more than text files.

Why is one reply charged twice? Each reply includes writing it and checking it against your knowledge, so a reply can show more than one usage entry.

Do credits roll over? Monthly credits do not. Purchased credits and earned savings credits do not expire. Older wallet money keeps its original non-expiry terms.
